Gallatin, Tennessee - Josephine "Josie" Dillehay Carter, aged 98, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, in Gallatin, Tennessee. Born on January 22, 1927, in Defeated, Tennessee, Josie lived a life devoted to her family and her home.

Josie was preceded in death by her husband James Allen Carter; her parents, Charlie Dillehay and Flora Kemp Dillehay; sisters, Gladice Dillehay, Lois McDonald; and brothers, Roy Dillehay, Leman Dillehay.

Josie was a loving homemaker, dedicating her life to creating a nurturing and loving environment for her family. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Rebecca Perry (Barry) and Sheila Capley, as well as her cherished granddaughters, Ashley Clark (John) and Melissa Williamson (Jesse). Josie loved music, dancing, and sports. She seldom missed any events involving her granddaughters. She was an excellent cook and her cornbread dressing will be missed. Josie was a lifelong member of Friendship Primitive Baptist Church in Defeated Creek, and was the oldest living member.

A visitation was held at Anderson Funeral Home on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, allowing family and friends to gather in remembrance of Josie. A second visitation was held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 12:00 PM, leading into the funeral service, which began at 2:00 PM on the same day with Bro. Jeff Patterson officiating. Interment followed in the Crestview Memorial Gardens where John Clark, Jesse Williamson, Justin McDonald, Jordan McDonald, Jason Givens, and Joey Kissell served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Barry Perry, Mike McDonald, Charlie Givens, Bill Thornton, Rickey Dillehay, and Randall Green.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Josie's caregivers, Connie Bradford, Deborah Canida, Sharon Diamond, Rita Gwaltney, Melissa Moore, Jackie Powell.

Josie's legacy of love and devotion will undoubtedly live on through her family and the memories they share. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
